BoJo's Ready for GameDay
Apparently something called "Vandymania" is gripping the ESPN research department according to Todd McShay, although I'm still not exactly sure what he's talking about. He does have a good read about what Vanderbilt needs to do to win on Saturday though, focusing on the efficient quarterback play and turnover margin that has allowed the Commodores to be 4-0 without an explosive offense or a shutdown defense (National ranks of 112 and 73 (out of 119) respectively). McShay aptly points out that stats like these are more likely to follow an 0-4 team than a 4-0 team, but points to Vandy's discipline and +9 turnover differential as the reason for the success. Before most big games, BoJo sends a generic email to the students asking for their support and cooperation, and today was no different. However, I actually found myself reading this one, and as strange as it may sound, I think it's because of what McShay is talking about. Let me explain myself... Discipline starts at the top, and for a team that has had trouble taking care of the ball and closing out games under BoJo before, it's very encouraging to see a team that actually inspires confidence from a fan's perspective. I'm probably not giving him enough credit, but for the first time, I find myself praising BoJo's accomplishments as a coach and not just as a recruiter. This is a team that we actually believe can win tough games, and I think fans respond to that. Even in 2005 when the Commodores started off 4-0 I don't remember the same kind of buzz. Obviously GameDay is a big part of the hype, but even before the GameDay announcement there was a lot more excitement about this team than similar teams of the past three years. Sure it starts with the players, but I think BoJo deserves credit too. I'm not sure I'm ready to call him one of the best coaches in the SEC like PowerOfDixieland, but I'll at least entertain the idea for the now. His ability to sustain this success remains to be seen, but at least he got me reading his e-mails.... We have a golden opportunity to showcase our great University before a huge national audience. In fact, we have two opportunities since ESPN's College GameDay is coming to campus in addition to ESPN's televising our football game with Auburn. Couldn't have said it better myself, and can't wait for this weekend... ...back to work for now. See everyone at Commons tomorrow!
This is truly a weekend our football family has wanted to happen for years. Let's work together to make Vanderbilt University proud. Make it a point to be at the GameDay set Friday afternoon and especially Saturday morning. Make a sign, enjoy the fun atmosphere and let the sports world see we have tremendous spirit.
As the football coach, I can't tell you how important your support is during a game. Your enthusiasm ignites the entire stadium and it certainly matters to our team. Please be in the house early, be loud, have fun and be classy--we are Vanderbilt and we do it right. Help us beat Auburn and make this weekend one that none of us will ever forget.
Go 'Dores!

They're calling it "Vandymania"?
I think the better term for it would be “Vandemonium”!
Good luck against Auburn. I hate Auburn.

"Hate" is such a strong word considering...
…you need AU to win to help GA recapture the East.
By the way, nice showing against Bammer last week. Way to go!
